It's cold "there" also....

Some of my Yellowknife friends have been posting references to the local weather on facebook.  Thought I'd share with the Minnesotans that think it's cold here.

Minus 41C this morning with a slight wind bringing the temp down to minus 51C... OUCH.  Looking at the top pic.. the dark cold reminds me of starting my vehicle and driving in that cold weather.. wheels so stiff they didn't want to turn.

Life is good!

It's been cold here...

Of course, these Minnesotans have me brainwashed about how cold it is and I forget walking to a New Year's Party in Inuvik years ago when the temp was -50C and the snow was crunching under foot as I walked along the street.

Anyways, the lake looked damn cold this morning.  Some nice sights at sunrise of the (I believe) John H Munson was sitting deckside (that's mariner talk) waiting to be the last ship to dock into the Duluth Harbour for the season. Supposed to go in tomorrow.

Was just watching the mist around the ship.. it would totally disappear at times... and thinking that a sailor's life probably isn't always that great.. but mine is d'accord.

Saturday was a good day...

Saturday morning we decided to take a trip up the North Shore. It was a nice day and we took our time driving up as far as Silver Bay.  Jewels and I both love this drive and find it so relaxing and good for us.

We took a short hike in one spot and snapped a few pics of the cold cold cold lake. It was pretty with the sun shining onto it and reflecting its warmth to us. We also stopped along the road and interrupted a feast that a group of ravens and a large bald eagle were having on a deer carcass.  The ravens took off but the eagle landed close by and let me take a few pics before he flew off.

We finished the evening back in Duluth and tried our feet at Contra dancing and Traditional Square Dancing. Great exercise and Great fun.

Oh... and my sweet little Grand Daughter Shaya turned 6 years old on Sunday. I love my grand kids soooooo much.  Great weekend.
