Interesting photos... sunrise and snow.

Well, if anyone is peeking at the pics that I have posted, you will note that there has been a stark resemblance between a lot of the lake view photos taken.. And there is a good reason for this.. a damn good reason... cause the scene changes on a regular basis and it's ... like... really really pretty .. and I can't stop myself from taking pictures of it cause it's so .. uhhhh.. NICE!

The pine tree with the snow is the tree Scott cut down for us for an Xmas tree. We didn't get any further than setting it up on the deck. We (Scott, Mary, Jewels, and I) were playing scrabble the other nite and it had been snowing all day. The limbs on our poor tree were sagging... like an old woman struggling through a storm... so nice as well.

I just made that old woman thing up BTW... neat aye?... Life is Good.

A bit of ice on the Superior shore...

I saw a couple of ships coming in yesterday as I was shoveling that damn snow... so I decided to take my camera down to Canal Park and try get some photos of them as the arrived...

Well, my timing was off and I missed the ship's arrival but I noticed that the waves up along Park Point were putting up some large sprays so I decided to go take a look.

I had been there a couple of days ago and noticed a small amount of ice build up that looked like broken glass. That day the waves were small and the ice was making a strange tinkling noise as it lapped back and forth. Well, yesterday I was amazed as the waves had pushed up a wall of ice about 30 meters wide and god knows how deep. Waves were crashing against the wall of ice pushing more shards into the pile.

OK.... so it doesn't take much to excite me.. but it sure looked nice..

Life is good aye???

A nice little visit from Anne Marie...

We were so happy that Annie was able to take some time to drive up for a few day's visit. It's too bad that Jewels couldn't take some time off work but we were able to do some fun stuff during her visit.

On the first day, I took Annie out to the Superior Curling Club and gave her a short lesson on playing the "grand old game". Annie caught on quickly (of course) and was soon sliding her stones into the house at the far end of the sheet.

In addition, she got to meet Wisconsin's curling legend, Bud Somerville who was out practicing with one of his mates.

We had a lovely sunshinie day today and after breakfast we headed out to Scott's cabin to check out his snowshoe trail. We spent a couple of hours treading around in the woods taking in the beauty of a snowy Minnesota winter. It was a bit cold to start but the activity soon warmed us up and it turned out to be a wonderful day.

So nice to have the kids out to visit and we are looking forward to seeing the rest of the gang whenever they can come up for a visit.

Happy New Year to all.... Awesome morning pics!

Well, sunrise was it's usual fantastic sight out on the mist.

Shortly after Jewels left for work, a laker headed into port and it was just awesome to watch it glide through the fog rising off the lake.

Think we are going to enjoy the coming year in this lovely place. Life is Good!

Whoops..... half an hour later, the mist has lifted and as I look out, one laker is leaving and a few minutes later another arriving and heading into port...

Must go and hang our bird feeders.. must go.. must..

La vie... c'est bonne n'est ce pas?

Mom's 90th Birthday

December 16th is Mom's birthday and this year she turns 90 which is quite a milestone. The family got together for a dinner at the Senior's home in Lundar on the 11th. A good opportunity for a family meal. We had also invited people to drop in for a coffee and say hi to the "boss". We had a great turn out - about 70 people in all. It was so nice to see a lot of my cousins and old friends who dropped be to celebrate Mom's big day.

Pics from the road

Winter driving brings on a whole set of new scenes and this las trip just added to mamma nature's delights.

I just had to stop a few times to take in the scenery north of Duluth driving out on a sunny day a few days after a major snow dump. The trees were drooping from the weight of the snow piled on them - lotsa the white stuff already and only mid december.

This photo was taken of a weather system like no other that I have driven in and I must say, this boy has a lot of miles on him! I was driving from Lundar to Winnipeg and noticed that the road ahead was exactly in line with a system of clouds to the west and sunny skies to the east. It was so strange to look out the passenger side of the truck and have limited visibility and out the driver side to see for miles. A bit further south I took a large curve in the road (around the town of Warren) and was driving in a snow storm for while until I completely rounded the curve and got back into the sun.

Finally, between Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg on a cold day I noticed the sun framed by a couple of large sun dogs.... took a few photos and a bit later saw a big old tree that seemed to add to the starkness of the scene..
